About The Pines Inn

Formerly known as the St. Moritz Hotel, The Lake Placid Pines Inn has been a popular and beloved destination for travelers to the Adirondacks since the early 1900s. The Pines Inn was built by Albert Stickney in the summer of 1907, changing hands a few times over the years, until 1923 when the inn was renamed the iconic “St Moritz Hotel”.

In the 1930s and 1940s, this famous Lake Placid landmark was a lively retreat for the rich and famous from New York attracting guests like Helen Kane, the original “boob-boop-a-doop” girl, and Albert Einstein as an invited guest of honor. They even ran a summer promotion for nude sunbathing on the roof of St. Moritz! It was the Lake Placid destination to see, and be seen!

In the early 50s, manager William Rosco purchased the St. Moritz Hotel leading it down the path to success. The St. Moritz Hotel continued on, creating the first ski packages with Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort and hosting many distinguished guests over the years, including bobsled teams, Olympic athletes, and Robert Kennedy’s campaign for John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign. If these walls could talk, oh the stories they would tell!

Today, The Pines Inn has been beautifully restored and updated to maintain the inn’s historic old world charm, and provide our guests with a comfortable, convenient, and authentic Adirondack experience in the heart of Lake Placid Village, NY.
